An engraved .44 (R.F.) 'Henry Model 1860' lever-action rifle by New Haven Arms Company, no. 2258 (circa 1863)

Early variation, having the rounded top onthe buttplate.  the silver-plated receiver engraved with bold foliate-scrollwork on a punchdot background, likely the work of Samuel Hoggson, with folding staff rear-sight on action dovetail, serial number "2258" found on top flat of barrel just ahead of receiver, on the toe of the buttplate, on the stock under the upper tang and on the left side of the lower tang under the stock, and on 3 of the screws, assembly number "08" found underneath muzzle sleeve, the figured stock with steel buttplate and trap engraved en suite, , sling-swivel and eye, the octagonal refinished barrel stamped Henry's Patent Oct. 16 1860 Manufactur'd by the New Haven Arms Co. New Haven, CT. with full-length integral magazine-tube, muzzle sleeve, nickel fixed blade foresight and rear sight blank
24¼in. barrel Excellent bore, works perfect and the stock is close to perfect. Only the barrel has a light refinish coating. 98 % ori. silver on frame. Outstanding original Early Henry rifle
