Indian War Era National Guard Frazier's Patent 1872 Leather Cartridge Box for .45-70 Cal Trapdoor Rifle - 1st Version McKenney & Co. - VERY NICE Condition

Indian War Era National Guard Marked Frazier's Patent 1872 Leather Cartridge Box.  This box is used, it has the NG brass plate on the front. The leather is soft and supple.  All the stiching is intact, no fraying.  No rips or tears in the leather.  No cracks or crazing.  It has brass hinges on the lid, another unusual design.  Internally, there is a wooden block with holes bored for the .45-70 cartridges.  This is the first version of this cartridge box, made by McKenney & Co. 

It has several interesting markings and patent dates on the box, please see the photo's for details and condition.  It is marked Fraziers Patent Feb 5, 1872, Reissued 1878.  McKenney & Co. New York.

These were used by National Guard units in New York and Pennsylvania during the late 1800's.
