Cased Factory engraved Colt 1849 Pocket revolver, cal ,31

Cased Factory engraved Colt 1849 Pocket revolver, cal ,31 , serialnumber 43630, all matching, including the wedge. Built in 1852. the saqme year engraved Thnomas J.Barlow contacted samuel colt  about employment. He engraved for Colt for a brief period c. mid 1852 to early 1854, and this style of engraving has  been attributed to barlow based on his prior work with Blunt/Syms in New yorkas discussed in ' Colt Engravers of the nineteenth century' by Herberd G. Housze.  The engraving covers the rear 1/3 of the  barrel, the side flats of the loading lever arm, the fre, hammer , the trigger guard bow and the top and bottom of the gripstrap. , also the screws and the side of the wedge are engraved. 

Most of the engraving consists of scroll engraving with tighter 'donut scroll' designs than the work of the German immigrant engravers soon after employed by colt and has crosshatched backgrounds. The hammer has a wolfs head on both sides engraved. , the colt markings on the frame and barrel are in script as should be for a factory engraved colt. Underneath the serialnumbers you can see the punchdot marking, indicating the special treatment, hense the engraving and special finish. 

The condition is excedllent,  the scene is a bit light ( was the case when the pressure roll , used to rol the scene was at it's end of it's life) and has a light rustspot just below the serialnumber. 
The brass is retaining 98 % of the orig. silver, overall retaining 95 to 97 % of the blue, works perfect. 

The case is an original case for a 5 inch pocket ( this one) and has an original eagle flask embossed on both sides, the bulletmold is the early brass one, correct for this serialnumber and has the colt markings, , the inside deviders have to be reglued, but I wil take care of that, no key. The cloth is original.  This is an untouched and original case. 

all together this is a hard to find >colt in this condition and this engraver did not produce a lot of these.  BEST OF BEST
