Colt Collectors
Every Colt collection reaches a point where the common models are covered, and the next piece has to be exactly right. A rare variation, the correct barrel length or a revolver with all its original parts can take years to turn up, and when it finally does, it is often gone before you have had a proper look. Wild West Treasures buys Colts in person at arms fairs in the United States and Europe and describes each one in detail, so Colt collectors can assess a piece quickly.

What Colt collectors look for in a piece
Experienced Colt collectors rarely buy on looks alone, because the value of a Colt lies in what can be verified. Most of them check a piece on four points before they decide:
- Matching numbers. The serial number should match on the frame, trigger guard, backstrap and, on many models, the cylinder and barrel.
- Originality. Original finish, grips and screws count for more than a bright restoration, even when the revolver shows honest wear.
- Condition. Many collectors describe condition using the NRA antique grading scale, from Factory New down to Poor.
- Documentation. For many models, a factory letter from the Colt archives can confirm how a revolver left the factory and where it was shipped.
Building a collection around Colt models
Most Colt collectors build their collection around one model line, one period or one type of variation. The Peacemaker and its target version are a favourite starting point, which is why the Colt Single Action and Bisley revolvers have a section of their own in the catalogue. Others focus on the percussion era, where Colt Navy revolvers with different barrel markings and grip types offer plenty of variety. Whatever your focus, the complete Colt collection shows every Colt currently available.
A European source for Colt collectors
Because the pieces are sourced in Europe as well as in the United States, the catalogue regularly includes Colts that seldom appear on American dealer lists. London-made Navies from Colt‘s short-lived British factory and Liège-made Belgian versions of Colt designs are good examples. For Colt collectors in the UK and the rest of Europe, the current Colts for sale are therefore an alternative to importing from the United States, within a wider range of antique arms of the American West.
