> CE (Charles Ethan) Billings, Weatherford, Vermont prototype ss rifle, no serial number, .40 cal with 24 3/4” octagonal barrel; Billings was an employee of Colt and Remington and later an officer in Roper Arms; he was granted a patent on April 24, 1866 possibly for this gun. Please note the fresh chip at top of stock -

PICTURED IN THE BOOK of the  late 'Bill Bird's collection of unusual single shot and a few percussion rifle that are mostly experimental types'. A small description of the individual rifles is included. ( I bought a part of the collection)

This is probably a unique single shot TAKE DOWN rifle, the barrel is 26 1/2 inch long  and has a perfect shiney bore,  The octagon barrel retains 97 % of the original browning, the cleaningrod is not there. Original sight present.

Left side of the frame is marked C.BILLINGS

PROBABLY UNFIRED, THE STOCK IS EXCELLENT, EXCEPT FOR THE SMAL CHIP ON LEFT SIDE. WORKS PERFECT AND IS IRREPLACABLE,  BEST OF BEST
